Getting Started

theShoal is a social fishing app that lets you create and join fishing competitions, log your catches, and earn Scales points on the global leaderboard. It's designed to make fishing more engaging and community-driven — whether you're competing with friends or taking part in platform-wide events.
Yes — theShoal is free to download and use. There is no subscription or entry fee to join competitions.
theShoal is currently available on Android via Google Play. iOS (iPhone and iPad) support is coming soon.
Yes, you'll need a free account to participate in competitions and log catches. Creating an account takes less than a minute.

Competitions

You join a competition, head to the water, and log your catches. Each catch is automatically credited to all active competitions you're a part of. At the end of the competition period, the leaderboard determines the winner.
User-generated competitions are created by anglers for their friends or club — they're invite-only and you control the rules. Platform competitions are run by the theShoal team and are open to all users. You can browse platform competitions and join the ones that interest you.
Yes. You can create a competition with custom rules including the target species, scoring type (weight, length, or catch count), location, and duration. Invite friends directly or share a competition link.
Yes. You can leave any competition at any time. Your catches and results will be removed from that competition's leaderboard when you leave.
Competitions can optionally be location-specific. A competition creator can require catches to be logged within a certain distance of a set location, or open it up to anywhere.

Catch Logging

During an active fishing session, tap the log button, take a photo of your catch, enter the weight and species, and submit. The catch is instantly credited to all competitions you're currently a member of.
At a minimum, you'll need a photo and the fish species. Weight and length can also be added depending on the competition requirements.
No — that's one of theShoal's key features. Log a catch once and it automatically counts towards every active competition you're enrolled in.

Scales & Leaderboards

Scales is the points currency in theShoal. You earn Scales by winning competitions. Your total Scales balance determines your position on the global angler leaderboard.
Win competitions. The higher you place on a competition leaderboard, the more Scales you earn. Platform-wide competitions typically offer more Scales than smaller private events.
Your Scales balance and leaderboard position are visible on your profile in the app.

Privacy & Data

Your location is only used to help select your current fishing location when starting a session. We do not sell or share your location data with third parties. See our Privacy Policy for full details.
Other participants in the same competition can see your catch entries and leaderboard position within that competition. You can review privacy settings in your profile.
You can permanently delete your account from the app by going to MyStats, selecting your profile image, and choosing Delete Account. This will remove all your personal information, fishing history, catch records, competitions you've created, and competition scores. Account deletion is permanent and cannot be undone.
